Happy Lungs
The British Lung Foundation is very keen to encourage people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or COPD as it is more widely known, to exercise regularly. They are so keen that they have devised their own exercise classes and trained a number of instructors (myself included) to lead them. The classes are called BLF Active, which is a bit of a mouthful so I've decided to call mine Happy Lungs.
I am closely linked to both the British Lung Foundation and the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team at Broomfield Hospital.
Before becoming a Happy Lung you must first complete the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programme with the hospital. Once you have finished the programme it's important that you continue to exercise regularly. Happy Lungs classes are small and friendly with a maximum of 20 people in each group. They provide the perfect continuation in a fun, sociable class with plenty of motivation and support for people of all abilities.
